Music
Why is music so important?
At Meath Green Infant school, we recognise music as a powerful form of personal expression and growth and value the integral part it can play in developing the whole child. Music plays a vital role in developing a child’s confidence, creativity and connectedness with their peers and wider school community. Through our music lessons,we aim to provide a high-quality music education that promotes joy, celebration, experimentation, curiosity and imagination.
How do we teach music?
Our music lessons are planned using our scheme Get Set 4 Music which aligns with our core values, our whole child approach to music and the objectives laid out in the National Curriculum. Get Set 4 Music is planned so that progression is built into the scheme which ensures our children are increasingly challenged as they move through the school. In all year groups, children enjoy experimenting with different sounds, are able to listen to and discuss music from a range of genres and cultures, as well as have regular opportunities to develop their skills of playing both tuned and untuned instruments. They also have many opportunities across the school year to learn seasonal songs and participate in whole class performances.
By the time your child leaves us. . .
Pupils at Meath Green Infant school will leave our school with an age-appropriate knowledge of musical genres and styles and will be able to review and evaluate a range of musicians work, expressing their individual opinions. They will have learnt to sing and use their voices to create and compose music independently, as well as collaboratively with peers. Our pupils will have explored playing a range of both tuned and untuned instruments and learnt how music is created. As well as this, they will have had the opportunity to share their ideas and collaborate with others to perform in front of audiences.
