Geography
Why is Geography so important?
Geography helps children of all ages to make sense of the world around them and sparks their curiosity in places and people. We believe that Geography should enable pupils to be curious about the diverse nature of the world we live in and their local community. At Meath Green Infant School, we aim to deliver a Geography curriculum that allows all pupils to access and explore their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live and the people around them.
How do we teach Geography?
Children will gain secure knowledge of the world around them through quality teaching and resources. Our ambition and intent for Geography is that pupils build on prior knowledge through retrieval practice and use subject specific key vocabulary. Fieldwork and educational visits or visitors will be used with pupils when relevant to deepen the context of learning regarding their own locality and the knowledge of the subject as they should have a range of experiences that cater for active and outside learning.
By the time children leave us…
Pupils at Meath Green Infants will leave our school with a range of knowledge, skills and language surrounding geographical concepts and the skills to discover their world further.
