History
Why is History so important?
To understand our current world, we must first understand our past. At Meath Green Infant School, we aim to deliver a History curriculum that is accessible to all and allows all to be curious about their own past and the past of those around them. We believe History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change and continuity, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and ability to put our own times into Historical context.
How do we teach History?
Children will gain a secure subject knowledge through direct teaching of History in lessons and wherever possible, real-life experiences and enrichment activities will be used to deepen the context of the learning. Our curriculum inspires pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past and to ask questions. Our teaching of History and the development of skills reflects that as we move from personal timelines within our own living memory to local, national and international events beyond living memory.
By the time children leave us…
Pupils will develop their historical skills throughout their time at Meath Green Infant School and will be able to make links between current and previous learning across the curriculum. By using historical skills, pupils will also understand the methods of historical enquiry. They will begin to develop their understanding of chronology, which will then help them to organise and understand the past.
